About Us

We are a group of students from Albert Park College. We hope to raise awareness about food miles and the affect it has on the environment, such as pollution and health. We are running a stall in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Come to Our Stall

40 Bay St,

Port Melbourne.

The Community Engagement Environment Fair will be on Wednesday the 5th of December.

At this stage, there will be two sessions; one from 10am to 11am, and the second from 1:10 to 2:10.

We look forward to seeing you there! Hopefully, we will win the prize for the most amazing 'Awareness Campaign'.

What is the Problem?

Transport

Food shipped by plane causes 177 times more carbon emissions then if it were sent via ship.

Livestock

"The transport of live animals is an important animal welfare issue. The numbers of animals being hauled around the country have grown with the trend for large, centralised abattoirs and meat-processing plants. Animals are also exported and imported to and from other countries."

Health

"Vitamin C, the B vitamins and vitamin E are all important anti-oxidants that protect against disease, because they attack free radicals - the chemicals that cause heart disease and cancer. Imported produce can have lower levels of these vitamins, whereas freshly picked fruit and vegetables will contain maximum nutrients."
